DeKalb COUNTY: Emmy for funeral coverage
DeKalb County's government access television station won a prestigious award for its coverage of the Coretta Scott King funeral in
2006.
The National Academy of Television
Arts & Sciences gave DeKalb County TV an Emmy at its Southeast chapter awards program last month (the Southeastern Emmys cover Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina
and Asheville, N.C.). The
station was honored for its 67th edition of "Inside DeKalb," a 30-minute newsmagazine show.
DCTV won in the category for
special events coverage (other than news or sports). The program, which aired in February 2006, competed against New Birth Missionary
Baptist Church's coverage of
the same funeral, a segment by TV station WSB on the lighting of the Macy's "Great Tree" and Georgia Public Broadcasting's
coverage of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame awards. The award names director Diamond Miller Lewis and Mike Hesterley, E. Kirk
Glass and AvivA Hoffmann.
DCTV airs county government
meetings and informational programs on Channel 23 of Comcast Cable.
